LADBROKES 2009 YORKSHIRE CUP BETTING TIPS

Sir Michael Stoute's deft charge Ask takes the lead from the bookies as we head into the widely-anticipated Yorkshire Cup tomorrow. Currently listed at 5/2 I expect a slight drop in price if the punters continue to pile on over the next 18 hours or so. This horse hasn't seen action since last October, coming in dead last at Newbury in a group 3 race. I'm really not 100% convinced, but he has looked really good in training sessions running up to this, but at 5/2 I just don't see a huge amount of value. If he was coming in 3-2-1-1-2-1 I'd say 5/2 for sure, but 2-1-5-5-6-7 doesn't exactly inspire a huge amount of confidence at that price. Geordieland, who sounds Newcastle-bred but is actually French, comes in with a slightly better form card that really helps add some spice to this. At 7/1 that's good value and a quality each-way bet. He's also been laid off for quite a while, without a competitive fixture since last August. He had a great run of 2nd place finishes last year, so could very well be a top 3 pick for sure. These two have had lots of press in the last bit, but for me, the only way to go here is Veracity at 4/1. He's had competition this year, and successful competition to boot. He had two excellent outings at Nad Al Sheba in February, winning the DRC Gold Cup handily and losing to a photo in the Concourse 2750- both of these were on turf. Prior to that, he finished 2008 on a good run of 1-1-3 in the last few outings, taking the Group 3 Jockey Club Cup. I expect the conditions on the ground to appeal to his preferred style of racing and the price isn't enough to put me off either. I'm backing Veracity all the way. Fiulin is another contender with a quality record and a recent victory. He won the Weatherby's Bank at Nottingham, besting a field of four by a decent distance. He did lose last October at Newmarket to Veracity, so that will factor into my equation here as well. 5/1 isn't a bad price and may be worth an each-way shout. VERDICT1. Veracity2. Fiulin3. Ask4. Geordieland
