As the English Premier League season draws nearer by the day and the teams pre-season tours are about to kick off over the coming weeks, attention is getting paid to the new sides coming up to the English Premier League and the early-season relegation wagering is going to be especially interesting this year.

Reading are back in the Premier League and they are trading alongside fellow-promotees Southampton as the 11/10 favourites to fall through the trap door back to the Championship. The Royals had a good stint in the upper echelon a few years back and will be looking to firmly ensconce themselves in the Premier League make-up this time. They haven't been particularly aggressive in lining up blockbuster signings but they remain a solid squad who performed well amidst Championship competition last year.
Wigan are the perennial escape artists and they are, once again, favoured for the drop this year. Punters will find the Latics available at 7/5 and that's not a bad price as they usually drift down sharply after poor results through the early and mid portions of the season. They always turn on the style in late March and do just enough – oftentimes with some real last day heroics.
Norwich are trading at 6/4 and look good value to stay up, all things considered. Swansea are another one of the “up-in-the-air” candidates and they're priced around 9/5. Newly-promoted West Ham are trading at 9/4 and that's testament to how much they are expected to perform this year now that they are back in the top flight.
QPR and West Brom share a 4/1 listing.
It is certainly a telling statement to the wide open nature of the relegation race this year, and the credibility of the teams coming up out of the Championship, that no candidates are considered odds-on for relegation. We could certainly see a surprise this year, as we almost saw with Aston Villa last season.
Stoke are at 7/1 for the drop while Aston Villa themselves are available at 8/1. Fulham have just been trimmed to 10/1 but will obviously be confident about keeping up their no-fuss, no-muss reputation.
