LATEST BETTING PREDICTIONS FOR JULY 12: FERNANDO TORRES FAVOURED FOR MANCHESTER CITY
It was a bitter-sweet evening for Fernando Torres in Johannesburg last night as celebrations of winning the World Cup were slightly curtailed by a groin injury picked up in the dying minutes of the match against Holland.
Initial fears of another lengthy lay-off – made more apparent by the sight of Torres beating the ground in frustration – were pushed slightly to one side at the sight of ‘El Nino’ celebrating the victory with his team mate as well as reports of him walking out of the Soccer City stadium unaided.
Torres will now be on a three week holiday before reporting back to Liverpool for pre-season training. That is of course if he is still a Liverpool player at that time. Both Chelsea and Manchester City will continue to monitor the situation regarding the £50million rated striker with the London club expected to make a bid if the injury is not substantial.
Skybet have Man City as the 13/8 favourites for Torres’s preferred destination should he leave Anfield, but the 2/1 on Chelsea, who can offer Champions league football, looks a lot more appealing.
In golf, Darren Clarke continued his fine run of form with a second place finish in the Barclays Scottish Open and in doing so secured his place in this week’s Open Championship at St Andrews. Clarke had won the JP McManus pro-am earlier in the week and led after rounds one and two at Loch Lomond but he finally succumbed to the challenge of Italian Edoardo Molinari who recorded his maiden PGA Tour victory.
Clarke and Molinari are both available to back at odds off 100/1 with totesport to win the greatest prize in golf; The Open Championship.
And finally, away from the sporting world, three new contestants were introduced into the Big Brother house over the weekend. Andrew, Keeley and Rachel joined the madhouse and immediately started shaking things up within the confounds of the Big Brother walls.
It appears that the betting public are taking a shine to the one that the tabloids will call ‘geeky’ Andrew as he is a 10/1 shot to be crowned the winner of Big Brother 2010 – a relatively short price for someone so new in the house. However, it doesn’t appear that viewers are taking much of a shine to the two new girls in the house, Rachel is a 20/1 shot and Keeley 50/1 with Bet365.
