LATEST BETTING PREDICTIONS FOR JULY 16: EUROPA LEAGUE AND WORLD MATCHPLAY DARTS
Celtic and Liverpool now know who they will face in their respective Champions League and Europa League qualifying rounds after the draws were made earlier today.Celtic have been drawn against Portuguese side Braga who finished second in their domestic league, the first leg to be played away on 27/28 July with the clubs meeting in Glasgow on 3/4 August.
Liverpool appear to have been handed a relatively straight forward task in their opening round as they face either Rabotnicki of Macedonia or Mika (not the singer) of Armenia. The first leg will be Roy Hodgson’s first match in charge as Liverpool manager and will be played on 29 July at Anfield, the reverse fixture coming a week later. Liverpool are the 11/1 second favourites with Skybet, behind Manchester City, to win the Europa League. Celtic on the other hand are an understandably massive 300/1 with BlueSquare to win the Champions League.
Darts betting has been on the backburner for the last month or so with the football World Cup and now The Open Championship taking centre stage, however, Taylor and co. are back on stage this weekend for the World Matchplay championships. With a small field of just 32 the World Matchplay is widely considered to be the highest standard of competitions on the circuit. Taylor is of course the betting favourite but at the unbackable odds of 4/9 with tournament sponsors Stan James.
If you are looking for some bigger prices to get your teeth stuck into then you could do a lot worse than James Wade at 12/1 and Gary Anderson at 16/1, both with Sportingbet. Wade has made it to the final in three of his four Matchplay tournaments to date, lifting the trophy in 2007 and beaten by Taylor in the final on the two other occasions.
Scotsman Anderson is a player of unquestionable ability, but can at times struggle with his doubles. He made it to the final of the UK Open, the most recent televised tournament, and has subsequently won a floor tournament by beating Mark Walsh in the final. He is one of few who can challenge Taylor when on his best form.
