LATEST BETTING PREDICTIONS FOR JULY 5: TORRES OUT, TIGER IN AND JOE COLE OFF TO SPURS?

Liverpool fans this morning awoke to the news that Fernando Torres could be on his way out of the club, and worst of all it could be to one of their Premier League rivals. If the player’s agent is to be believed (he probably isn’t) then a move to Barcelona is out of the question, but it is “very likely that Fernando Torres will stay in the Premier League,” yet not necessarily with Liverpool.

Torres is expected to fetch a fee in excess of £50million should he leave Anfield and there are only two Premier League clubs who can afford that sort of money. Manchester City are Skybet’s favourites to secure his signature before the end of the summer transfer window at odds of 6/4, but they do not possess the lure of Champions League football that Chelsea do and if Roman Abramovich is willing to part with the necessary cash then Stamford Bridge could be his preferred destination.
It is 5/2 with Skybet that Fernando Torres joins Chelsea before the end of the summer transfer window.
In the Premier League’s other major ongoing transfer saga Joe Cole apparently has a host of top clubs chasing his signature. Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has once again voiced his admiration for the England midfielder who he managed as a youngster at West Ham, but also admits that they are not close to signing the player as yet.
Spurs are the 8/11 favourites to bring Cole to White Hart Lane next season whilst Arsenal are 6/4 to add him to their ranks and Liverpool 8/1. Given the tight budget that Roy Hodgson is working to Cole could be seen as a primary target for the 62-year-old and it may be worth a speculative punt on him playing his football at Anfield next season.
In golf, Lee Westwood is to undergo intensive treatment on a leg injury, just ten days before The Open Championship gets underway at St Andrews. Westwood has been to the forefront of proceedings in a host of golf’s recent major events and was set to go into The Open as the second favourite behind Tiger Woods.
The Englishman will have an MRI scan to assess the full extent of his injury but hopes to still be able to compete at St Andrews. Sportingbet currently offer odds of 16/1 that the world number three will win his first ever major later this month in Fife, Scotland.
