LATEST BETTING PREDICTIONS FOR JULY 8: LEWIS HAMILTON AND ARSENAL ODDS

Arsene Wenger has made his clearest indication yet that he intends to add a goalkeeper to his ranks this summer as a replacement for the unreliable Manuel Almunia. Speculation had been rife in the media and amongst Arsenal fans that a stopper would be top of Wenger’s shopping list in this transfer window and it now looks as though that is indeed the case.

Wenger has told Kenyan newspaper The Standard (no, we’re not sure why he was talking to a Kenyan newspaper either) that although Almunia is “superb” in training, he does “get nervous on big matches, thereby making silly mistakes.” The gaffer also added that he would be making an announcement on the goalkeeping situation at Arsenal after the conclusion of the World Cup.
Many believe that a reliable goalkeeper was one of the major missing links in last year’s futile title challenge and perhaps with the addition of a solid presence between the sticks Arsenal can win some silverware next season. The Gunners are 7/1 with Paddy Power to win the Premier League and also 7/1 to win the FA Cup.
In Formula 1, the British duo of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button are preparing for their home Grand Prix at Silverstone. The McLaren drivers currently sit atop of the drivers’ championship points table with Hamilton on 127 points and defending world champion Button on 121.
There had been a common belief that with the two British drivers racing for the same McLaren team there would be a conflict of egos leading to unrest within the camp. Yet the story is ‘so far, so good’ as we approach the halfway point of the season, and a win for either driver at Silverstone would boost spirits in the camp even further.
Hamilton is a 3/1 chance and Button 8/1 to take British Grand Prix glory, both with Boylesports.
England scrum-half Harry Ellis has today announced his retirement from Rugby Union at the age of 28. The Leicester Tigers player has been suffering from a recurring knee problem and has been sidelined from the game for the last 10 months. The player has never made a full recovery since undergoing reconstructive surgery back in 2007 and has now decided to hang up his boots for good.
Ellis had won 27 caps for England and also made one substitute appearance for the British Lions in last summer’s tour of South Africa.
