LATEST BETTING PREDICTIONS FOR JUNE 29: A BIT OF CAPELLO, CRICKET AND LUIS FABIANO
The FA will meet with Fabio Capello in two weeks time for talks about his position as England manager and where it all went wrong at the World Cup. Many of the daily newspapers believe that the fortnight period is merely a bid to buy some time in the hope that a club will approach the Italian and thus any compensation package would be waivered.
If it is to be arivvederci Capello then there won’t be any shortage of applicants for the job that is often described as the most pressurised in the country. Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has already spoken publicly about his desire to manage his country and claims that any other English manager would also dive at the chance to do the same.
William Hill are offering odds of 1/3 that the next England manager will be an Englishman and that looks a safe bet with the FA keen to get the public back on side. However, the job may become available a little too late for Roy Hodgson who is primed to take over from Rafael Benitez at Liverpool in the next couple of days.
Meanwhile the World Cup rumbles on at breakneck speed without England and yesterday both Brazil and Netherlands secured their passage to the quarter-finals and a mouth-watering tie against each other.
Luis Fabiano’s three World Cup goals have been the catalyst for Brazil’s success so far this tournament leading to an increase in speculation about where the player might be playing his club football next season. Should the striker decide to leave Seville then there will be a whole host of clubs battling it out for his signature.
Manchester United had been linked with the player prior to the tournament but it is unclear as to whether the club could afford a fee which is certain to be in excess of £20million. Real Madrid are being linked with all and sundry at present and they along with United are Skybet’s 3/1 favourites to sign the 29-year-old.
And in cricket, England have their sights set firmly on a 5-0 whitewash over Australia after they took a 3-0 unassailable lead in the ODI series. If they were to achieve the feat then they would land a telling psychological blow over their opponents ahead of this winter’s Ashes tour in Australia.
Had it not been for a late wobble in the third ODI – which they did ultimately overcome – we would be talking about three comprehensive victories for the English, yet the bookmakers are still offering England up at the slightly bigger odds for victory in the fourth ODI. Betfair’s 2.1 (11/10) on England taking a 4-0 lead looks to be the best bet of the day for Wednesday.
