With so much action and excitement unfolding and so many stories already beginning to emerge, you get the feeling that this season could wind up being an absolute classic.
With a number of barn-burning fixtures kicking off over last weekend we saw a number of the top teams showcasing their new signings and proving that several teams who had head up and down seasons over the last couple of years are now going to be emerging is very serious challenges for the English Premier League title.
The likes of Manchester United and Liverpool were both able to make dramatic statements by securing very important victories over their opposition - although the victories were important for relatively different reasons. United won by a larger margin than anybody else this weekend and now sit top of the table after the 3-1 victory over Bournemouth - who actually didn't play all that badly.
It wasn't so much the victory but the manner of the victory for the Red Devils that really made all the difference. the fact that Juan Mata was not only picked for the match but the start of the match and opened the scoring says a lot about Jose Mourinho and the fact that he's willing to give the player another chance even though admitting several years ago that the Spanish player was not his cup of tea and did not necessarily see his playing system.
A goal from Wayne Rooney also proved that he has a big opportunity to prove his doubters wrong as well.
