Latest football odds: FA Cup betting

Anyone who backed Arsenal to win the FA Cup will not like the draw for the fifth round. After landing Manchester United away in the last 16, the Gunners have drifted from 5/1 to 6/1 while Chelsea are the new 5/2 favourites with Paddy Power. With only goal difference separating them in the league table, there was also nothing to choose between the two sides when they met at the Emirates Stadium in December, as William Gallas struck a last-minute equaliser in a 2-2 draw. However, with the match scheduled to take place the weekend before the first legs of the Champions League, neither side will take the match as seriously as they otherwise might and Arsene Wenger, in particular, can be expected to give his lesser lights another run out, regardless of the 5-1 loss to Tottenham. The bookmakers certainly believe so, which is why United are still 3/1 to win the Cup and evens to beat Arsenal, who can be backed at 11/4 to come away from Old Trafford with a win. By contrast, fellow Champions League hopefuls Chelsea and Liverpool have got away lightly after drawing Huddersfield and Barnsley at home. Little wonder then that the holders are priced at 5/2 to retain their trophy, while Liverpool are in to 4/1 to reclaim the prize they won two seasons ago. The remaining Premier League sides in the draw face tricky away trips. Portsmouth and Middlesbrough must go to Preston and Sheffield United respectively with both Championship clubs having claimed top-tier scalps in the previous round. This column recommended Portsmouth as a value each/way bet at 16/1 following the completion of the third round and Pompey are still a decent bet at 11s with Corals and VCbet. Boro, however, might well be worth opposing after struggling so mightily against lowly Mansfield while Sheffield United were impressive when knocking out Manchester City.
