LILLE VS LIVERPOOL EUROPA LEAGUE BETTING TIPS
We’re just a short period away from kick-off in the widely-anticipated Europa League fixture between Lille and Liverpool. Rafa Benitez side are still reeling from their 1-0 loss to Wigan Athletic and I wonder whether that will spur them on to a big performance today. Personally, I think Liverpool are strong enough to handle Lille, but they will need to play their best stuff if they want to achieve a proper result here.
The away fixture is a tricky one, but the Reds are expected to get the job done. You’ll see that Lille are trading at a 19/10 price tag to win the match outright while the draw is listed at 21/10. You’ll find that Liverpool remain the favourites to win at a 6/4 listing. I think this is a solid one for the neutrals and I sort of get the feeling that Liverpool will either struggle in vain or wallop Lille 4-0 or something like that. That’s the level that things are currently at with the Anfield bunch.
Liverpool will need to score early, in my opinion, to get the match playing to their favour here. The bookies expect a half-time draw, but I can see Fernando Torres getting behind Lille’s defence and having a go at things. He looks a little short on confidence, but a striker of his quality is going to score goals, there isn’t really much debate about it- it’s just a matter of when. Lille are 5/2 to win the first half while Liverpool trade at 23/10. The half-time draw is favoured at a 17/20 price tag. Liverpool to be leading 2-0 at half-time is trading at a blockbuster price of 14/1. That’s something to keep in mind for value players favoured the Reds.
In regards to the outright correct score markets Lille are 6/1 to win the match by a 1-0 margin. 2-0 to the French side pays 11/2 while a 2-1 result rewards at 9/1. That would be a disaster to Liverpool due to the away goal, but I do think they will want to be in the drivers seat after this one. A 1-1 draw is the favoured result at 5/1. A 2-2 draw pays out at 14/1. Liverpool are 6/1 to win 1-0 and 17/2 to win the match 2-1.
I don’t see a huge amount of goals in this one, unless Liverpool really run riot here, and the bookies seem to agree. William Hill has priced under 2.5 goals this match at 4/7 with the over trading at 13/10. If you fancy Torres to do some real damage today, that might not be a bad bet.
Liverpool are 8/5 to keep a clean sheet while Lille trade at 17/10.
Lille Metropole will be expecting Pierre-Alain Frau or the awesomely-named Eden Hazard to get the job done in front of goal. They are both listed at 7/4 to score anytime and 6/1 first or last. Ludovic Obraniak is at 15/8 anytime and 13/2 first or last- the same price as Yohan Cabaye.
Fernando Torres is odds-on to score at 10/11 and 7/2 first or last. Dirk Kuyt has been in solid form recently and he’s at 5/4 anytime and 5/1 first or last. Steven Gerrard can be backed at 6/4 and 11/2, while David Ngog is at 15/8 and 13/2. Keep your eye on Yossi Benayoun if he gets a start at a 10/3 price tag.
