Liverpool v Chelsea Betting Odds
- By Jaymes Monte on November 6, 2010 10:19 GMTLiverpool host Chelsea at Anfield this Sunday afternoon looking to maintain their recent upturn in form. The bookmakers are expecting the champions to emerge victorious.
Liverpool are showing shoots of recovery after a start to the season that was nothing short of catastrophic for one of England’s most famous clubs. Back-to-back league wins have hauled them out of the relegation zone and a Steven Gerrard inspired win in the Europa League has made it three wins out of three in all competitions.
This Sunday they are set to face their toughest test yet and we should get a true indication of where the club are in terms of their top four aspirations when they face the league leaders. At odds of around 11/10 the bookmakers are certainly favouring the visitors to come away from this one with all three points, but Liverpool are a team in the ascendency and shouldn’t be underestimated.
Both teams recorded victories in midweek in Europe. Chelsea ran out comfortable 4-1 winners against Spartak Moscow at Stamford Bridge whilst Liverpool needed a second-half hat trick from captain Gerrard to overturn a 1-0 deficit against Italian side Napoli.
Gerrard is set to return to the starting line-up for this weekend’s game as will Fernando Torres, but Roy Hodgson will be without Joe Cole. Dirk Kuyt and Glen Johnson could return from injury. For The Blues Frank Lampard is out for 10 weeks following a hernia operation and Florent Malouda is also a doubt after suffering an ankle injury in last week’s win over Blackburn.
We can expect to see a few goals at Anfield this weekend as the last seven meetings in all competitions between the two sides have produced 24 goals at an average of over 3.4 goals per game. Over 2.5 goals can be backed at odds of Even money with most bookmakers and is likely to be a popular bet amongst punters.
Should Chelsea take all three points then they can reopen a healthy gap at the top of the table, anything less and they will be able to feel the hot breath of Manchester United and Arsenal on the backs of their neck.
