Liverpool vs Chelsea: A Bridge too Far BettingChoice Comment
The hot topic this week has been what will happen if Liverpool win the Champions League and Everton finish fourth. As much as the media have enjoyed discussing the topic, it really doesn't make much difference as Chelsea will win the all Premiership semi-final starting with victory at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening. Already on the verge of claiming their first Premiership title, Chelsea really should have little difficulty in seeing off Liverpool. The Blues are by far the most superior team in England and it won't be long before they are seen as a European super power. The two clubs have already met three times this season, and on each occasion it is the Londoners who have come out on top despite not playing to their best each time. For the most recent clash, the Carling Cup Final - Rafael Benetiz had the luxury of picking from all the fit players available. That though is not a luxury afforded to the manager this time with Morientes and Pellegrino cup-tied. In addition there is a doubt about several players fitness. Milan Baros is expected to play after picking up an injury in the recent loss at Crystal Palce, although a full ninety minutes is unlikely. Luis Garcia is also only just recovered, while fellow Spaniard Xabi Alonso has shrugged off his shin problem.Much has been made this season about how Liverpool have performed in Europe yet faltered in the Premiership. However, on closer inspection the Reds have been somewhat fortunate to progress this far.Qualification from the group stages was only achieved after a courageous fightback at home to Olympiakos - it should be remembered though Steven Gerrard was a very lucky person not to be sent off in that particular game. Then in the knock-out stages a very poor Bayer Leverkusen were overcome home and away. Then there was heaps of praise for the victory over Juventus - wrongly so in my opinion. The Serie A joint leaders put in two very poor performances, something I very much doubt would have happened at any other stage of the season. Back Chelsea to win 2-0 and 3-0 at VCBet
