Liverpool vs PSV betting tips
Rafa Benitez's Liverpool side produced a masterful display when demolishing PSV Eindhoven in their backyard last week, and it'd be a major surprise if the Reds were to throw away a three-goal cushion when the Eredivise champions come calling for the second leg of this Champions League quarter-final tie at Anfield on Wednesday evening. Benitez has pretty much a full-strength squad at his disposal. Fabiano Aurelio is out after incurring an achilles injury, while Dirk Kuyt will miss the game through suspension. But Pool have enough strength in depth to paper over the cracks. Momo Sissoko is back in the mix after serving his suspension and midfield maestro Xabi Alonso has recovered from a calf problem. In contrast, PSV coach Ronald Koeman will be without Jan Kromkamp, Michael Reiziger, Alex, Edison Mendez and Ibrahim Afellay, and will not be able to replace that quintet on a like-for-like basis. On a more positive note, though, the Dutchman has striker Arouna Kone back from injury while Jefferson Farfan has recovered after suffering a damaged hamstring. PSV were poor in the first leg and, given the enormity of the task facing them in this match, one wonder's whether they'll choose fight or flight in terms of attitude. Indeed, on the one hand they could approach this encounter thinking that they've got nothing to lose and throw the kitchen sink at Pool. On the other hand, they might play negatively. As PSV demonstrated against Arsenal when playing out a 1-1 draw, they are more than capable of getting a result away from home. But the three-goal deficit is surely way too steep a mountain for them to climb, especially with so many key players sidelined. Indeed, a comfortable victory for Liverpool is likely to ensue, setting the stage for a mouthwatering semi-final battle with Chelsea. For punters, this match is a tricky one. Liverpool are unlikely to go hell for leather, as there's simply no need, but by the same token if they strike early then that will knock the stuffing out of the visitors and, as Man Utd did against Roma on Tuesday night, the Merseysiders could end up running riot. Conversely, if PSV get an early goal, it'll be game on. However, the Reds' defence is rock solid when playing in front of the Kop and, for all that PSV possess attacking flair, they'll have their work cut out trying to break down such an efficient defence.
