London Clubs Trophy Analysis (Top jockey at Royal Ascot)
One of the toughest betting mediums at Royal Ascot at York is going to be the London Clubs Trophy (top jockey at the meeting). With 2004 winner Frankie Dettori sidelined for this year's meeting, the bookies are understandably pricing this up as something of a two-horse race, between Kieren Fallon and Kerrin McEvoy, who will be supplied ammunition by the strong Ballydoyle and Godolphin stable's respectively. However, while I would certainly expect both riders to taste success over the five-day meeting, I reckon that the value bet is Richard Hughes at 10-1 with totesport and William Hill.Hughes has a very good book of rides over the meeting. On the first day, he'll be on steering job To Sender in the Coventry Stakes. On Wednesday he starts the day with the enviable mount on the Henry Cecil-trained Camacho, who looks poised to fight out the finish of the Jersey Stakes with Jeremy Noseda's Proclamation.Camacho, beautifully bred being by Danehill out of a Zafonic mare, suffered a hairline fracture last season. He was having his first run for eight months when murdering his rivals in a Listed race at Haydock, recording a fast time in the process. If this colt is to fulfil his July Cup aspirations, he should go very close in this en route. In the concluding race on the card, the Irishman has an excellent chance aboard another Henry Cecil charge, Hachita, in the Sandringham Handicap.Hughes, who is retained first-jockey to owner Khalid Abdullah, starts Thursday with a good ride in the Norfolk Stakes aboard Classic Encounter, who has claims of upsetting likely hot favourite Strike Up The Band. The Ribblesdale's next up and Hughes looks poised for glory here aboard Fashionable. He'll then be bidding for a royal victory when teaming up with The Queen's Forward Move in the Hampton Stakes. At the time of writing, most of Friday is unclear in terms of his likely rides, but Saturday is shaping up well. Day Flight has to have a big chance in the Hardwicke Stakes. The four-year-old son of Sadler's Wells has gone from strength-to-strength this season and, although he has yet to tackle going faster than good, I cannot envisage faster ground being a problem for him.Hughes has some good rides on horses with sound each-way claims too, which can prove crucial if there's a tie, as the winner is then decided on who has the most placed finishes. McEvoy's best chances of glory are on Wednesday. He partners Sundrop in the Windsor Forest Stakes, and she will take the world of beating following her scintillating victory at Epsom on Oaks day. Naturally, Soviet Song will be a tough nut to crack, but she usually needs a run to bring her to the boil. McEvoy's other big chance on Wednesday comes in the imposing shape of Doyen, who I reckon is the one to be on in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes.Kieren 'the king' Fallon will pick up a lot of good outside rides, as well as those for Aidan O'Brien. I fancy his mount Mullins Bay in the Royal Hunt Cup, while he will have some good rides in the juvenile races, as well as chances aboard the likes of Oratorio and Virginia Waters in the St James's Palace and Coronation Stakes respectively.Philip Robinson has three very solid chances with Rakti in the Queen Anne Stakes, Notability in the Britannia Handicap, and Iffraaj in the Wokingham.Betting Verdict: 1pt Richard Hughes @ 10/1 (totesport)
