LPGA Tour: Womens US Open - Cherry Hills, Colorado
Cherry Hills will provide a tough test this week for the 155 women who are taking part in the third Major of the year, The US Open. The player on everyone's lips has to be Annika Soremstam who is still on for the Grand Slam of Major's. She's won the first two, and has to win here and at The British Open to complete the feat. She has been so dominant in the Womens game that it is certainly very possible. In fact Stan James quote her at 5/2 to get a Grand Slam. She's an 11/10 shot to win this week. She has been in the Top Ten in 4 out of the last 5 Opens. Can we look further than Sorenstam? Well history is not neccessarily on her side. She will feel the pressure this week, but she is a cut above the rest if her game is on song. Meg Mallon has a great Open record and won the event last year. She hasn't lit the tour up this year, but does come alive in the Majors. She's a wily competitor and at 66's is a very good value bet. Lorena Ochoa is second favourite at 16/1 after a good performance last week at Rochester. The Mexican is being touted as a Major winner one day, but she'll have to gain a bit of experience first. The New Kid on the Block (apart from Michelle Wie) is Paula Creamer. At just 18 she is young, fresh and fearless. It is a big ask to win this though but at 25's it might be worth a punt. It will be hot and sticky in Colorado this week. In the energy sapping heat, the younger guns might have an advantage. Cristie Kerr has been around long enough to know what is needed to win this event, and she currently lies second in the Money List. At 28/1 she looks at very good each way bet. Similarly Juli Inkster is not wet behind the ears and also at 28's her experience will be a crucial factor. She's a past US Open winner as well. Past Champion, Karrie Webb also has great experience and guile and at 40's she will give you a good run for your money. But there is one player this week who'll grab a lot of attention. Michelle Wie, the 15 year old amateur, competes this week and if you have never seen her play, tune in for a real treat. She hits the ball a mile and will surely win Majors one day. She is big for her age and she is used to the limelight so she will not be overawed. At 28/1 she is my idea of a great bet. She is pure Star Quality and you might not get a price like that again for her. Believe me she is the real deal. Get a free bet on the golf with Stan James!
