MALI VS ALGERIA AND ANGOLA VS MALAWI 2010 AFRICAN CUP OF NATIONS TIPS
Two more exciting fixtures ahead of us today and we have some pretty even contests, which is a stark contrast to Wednesday's action that saw another tournament heavyweight toppled by a lower-profile side.
In terms of the outright odds, the Mali vs Algeria fixture looks like the more profitable match as all the options in the 1X2 betting are paying out above evens. Mali are trading as the 13/10 favourites against Algeria, who are listed at 15/8. The draw pays out at 9/4, but I think both of these sides are here to win the game and would likely consider a tie game to be a real disappointment.
If you think Mali are going to put up a fairly big total, you can back them on a (-1.0) handicap at a 10/3 price tag. Having a look at the half-time/full-time market, the one that jumps out at me is Mali/Algeria and Algeria/Mali which are both listed at 25/1. If you back both you're effectively backing the team to be leading at half to lose the game and I think this one could be quite back and forth, especially if someone scores an early goal.
Mali saw goals coming in from all angles when they fought back incredibly against Angola. I think Algeria will need a real solid gameplan if they are looking to shut the Malians down. Fredi Kanoute is expected to get more points for his side and he trades at 5/4 to score anytime. Mamadou Samassa is listed at 13/8.
Algeria needs to get a goal in this match, preferably as early as possible. Their main goal threats are Abdelkader Ghezzel and Rafik Saifi at 2/1 to score anytime.
I think Mali have shown they are a dangerous threat in front of goal, while Algeria have their backs to the wall a bit in this fixture. I think they're capable of pulling off a victory, but the bulk of the money will be moving towards Mali as we get closer to the match.
Angola vs Malawi is an interesting side that, according to the bookmakers, looks a bit more straightforward... In theory, at least. Angola are heavily favoured at 4/7 but most of the favourites in this tournament haven't panned out. It's been a steady stream of upsets since around the 75th minute of the opening fixture. Malawi are priced at a profitable 9/2 and I suspect that's enough value for most punters looking for another big African Cup of Nations score.
The really big payout here, should Malawi pull off a victory, is in the correct score betting. If they can get a 2-0 victory you're looking at a massive 25/1. 2-1 to Malawi pays 18/1 while the same margin in Angola's favour pays out at a slimmer 15/2.
Manucho trades at evens to score anytime while Malawi will be looking to Russel Mwafulirwa to score. He is 11/4 anytime, but a massive 50/1 to score in both halves. If Angola have more defensive lapses, that may look a tidy piece of business.
The draw is probably the conservative option at 13/5, but I think plenty of punters may jump on board the Malawi train for this one, as there are plenty of rewarding options on them.
