MANCHESTER CITY AT EVENS TO FINISH 5TH IN THE ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE
Well, you can't buy an English Premier League title unless your name is Roman Abramovich, but you can certainly buy your way to fifth place if William Hill's odds are to be believed for their interesting English Premier League- Without Big Four- market. You'll find Manchester City sitting at evens on the top of the pile. Tottenham Hotspur are listed at 10/3 while Everton, everybody's favourite fifth-place club, are at a very enticing 5/1 to finish fifth. Aston Villa are just behind them at 6/1. This one looks like a four way battle, at the moment, as the odds jump quickly to 25/1 for West Ham to finish fifth. Now, the interesting variable here is that this isn't to finish in fifth place specifically, it's betting without the big four. Now, we know that there's a very distinct chance that things will wind up as they always do, but I think that with a good year and some luck along the way, Everton and City have a shot at pipping Arsenal for fourth spot. I think Tottenham are way underpriced here and should be somewhere closer to 5/1 or 6/1, Harry Redknapp has done well, but I don't see them as prime contenders for fifth at the moment. Hopefully they'll be able to stave off their usual 14th place in September-phase this time around. If I had a gun to my head on this one, I'd have to say Everton, I just don't see the value in backing City at this point. I need to see this team play a few times before I can make any real rational judgements on whether they'll be able to actually get the business done at both ends this year. I think they'll be able to blow teams away under the right circumstances, but whether they can keep a solid defence over 38 games is the biggest issue for me and I'm apt to stick with an old reliable here and back David Moyes men, led by Tim Cahill, to challenge again this year. I think consistency is key and we'll see that from Everton- not sure about City.
