MANCHESTER CITY VS LIVERPOOL PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING TIPS
In the context of the battle for fourth place this is certainly the biggest game of the season to date. If Manchester City can win then they will go four points ahead of Liverpool with a game in hand, if The Reds win then there will be a certain sense of inevitability in the air.
Since Roberto Mancini’s controversial appointment as manager of City things have become a lot more regimental at Eastlands, we don’t see the six goal thrillers that we had become accustomed to under Mark Hughes and although it may not be as entertaining and exciting for the neutrals it is certainly an approach which is a lot more conducive to success. The tightening of the defence and the toning down of the all-out-attack mentality has seen them climb the table steadily into a prominent position at a crucial stage in the season.
However, Mancini cannot take all the credit for their impeccable record at Easltnads where they are now unbeaten in all competitions in 20 games, of which they have won 16 and drawn four. And that is one of the main reasons that Liverpool are a big price of 3.1 (85/40) to win this match, the other reasons is that, well, they’ve been rather rubbish this season. They had looked to be getting things back on track in recent weeks but a lacklustre defeat at Arsenal then a nervy and narrow win against Unirea Urziceni have set the alarm bells ringing again. City’s players love the big games and even bigger occasions – which is evident from their results against the big four this season – so I’d suggest backing them to win this one at 2.6 (8/5) with Betfair.
Under Hughes it was unfathomable to think that it would be odds on that any given game would finish with under 2.5 goals, and there were a couple of weeks in the infancy of Mancini’s reign where there were good value bets to be had on games being low scoring affairs. Now the markets have adjusted and I’m starting to believe that they have gone a little too far the other way, City still possess a lot of attacking flair players and no matter how much the manager tries to restrain things when necessary, they still have some very creative players amid their ranks and some clinical finishers. This could be a good time to start backing over 2.5 goals in City games at value prices like the 2.3 (11/8) that is available at Betfair for this one.
For those (myself included) who would like to see the ‘big four’s’ monopoly on the Champions League places interrupted, this is a big day. With Aston Villa and Tottenham also playing on Sunday the pecking order for fourth place could be reshuffled by the close of play tonight, but whoever wins this game will certainly be in the driving seat.
