MANCHESTER CITY VS TOTTENHAM LATEST ODDS AND BETTING TIPS
There was always the potential that either side could slip-up in the preceding weeks but this has long since been earmarked as the fourth place decider. Manchester City and Tottenham’s date with destiny is upon us, only one can attain Champions League qualification for the other it is comparative Europa League squalor.
City’s financial situation means that a place in next season’s Champions League could open up a whole new world for ‘the other’ Manchester team. For Tottenham you have to feel that this could be their best opportunity of joining Europe’s elite for a very long time to come.
So despite Harry Redknapp and Roberto Mancini’s best laid plans, the pressure is very much on both sets of players tonight, and it is Manchester City who I believe are best equipped to cope with those demands. Emmanuel Adebayor, Carlos Tevez, Craig Bellamy, Patrick Viera and Kolo Toure – to name but a few – all have experience of these do-or-die situations from their relative experiences at Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool. However, it is difficult to compile a similar list of players who will be wearing the Tottenham shirt at Eastlands this evening.
For that reason, combined with City’s strong home form and Tottenham’s stuttering away record, a home win at odds of 2.1 (11/10) on Betfair is the only bet that I can advocate on the match odds market.
Goals used to be a guarantee at Eastlands under the tenure of Mark Hughes, but Mancini has introduced a different mentality since his arrival and they have been much more pragmatic about their defensive responsibilities since the Italian took charge. Yet there could come a time this evening when they must throw caution to the wind. Only a win will suffice for City, a draw would be very much to the advantage of Spurs.
On the same principle, if City do take the lead Spurs must go all out to find an equaliser and that could lead to a rollercoaster evening with chances and goals galore. Backing Over 2.5 goals at 1.8 (4/5) with Betfair would be sensible, but Over 3.5 and Over 4.5 at 3.0 (2/1) and 6.0 (5/1) would reap much greater rewards.
It has been a fantastically entertaining Premier League season and it is quite fitting that we should have such a game at this stage of the season. Let’s just hope that the reality lives up to the billing.
