Tellingly, Javier Hernandez is priced at the same odds as Rooney to grab a goal at any point in the match. Both of them are 4/1 to grab two or more and 20/1 to grab a hat-trick. 

Other interesting options include Shinji Kagawa at 6/4 and looking like he might be due for a performance. Villa’s style of play is going to give him a bit more space to operate and if Fergie plays him in his preferred position then he’s going to be a step ahead here. Ryan Giggs could also play a part in this one and he is 10/3 to score anytime. 

Christian Benteke is the betting favourite for Villa if they’re going to do any actual damage to Manchester United. He’s trading at 10/3 and looking like the only real threat to the United backline. Villa’s other key striker, Gabriel Agbonlahor, is injured for this match. 

Look for United to try to strike early in this one and push forward in significant numbers. Sir Alex will likely name a very offensive formation and Robin Van Persie will be looking to get back in the goals for this one. With a festive atmosphere at United, they may turn this one into a romp and win by five or more. 

Aston Villa are just a rung above the relegation zone and clear by three points. They won’t be expecting to pick up any points here, but even forcing a draw could provide the crucial extra point they need to stay up. With QPR and Reading both looking effectively relegated, along with Wigan looking likely to pull of their annual escape, Villa find themselves battling Sunderland, Newcastle and Stoke.
