Manchester United Odds-On For Premier League Title

It was clearly a derby fixture for the ages and United were able to once again come from behind in a very big way to get the better of their cross town rivals Manchester City. It was a match mired in controversy with at least two hands worth of talking points to debate. Pitch invasions, coin throwing, wrongly disallowed goals... It was all there.

The Red Devils, courtesy of their signing of the season Robin Van Persie, were able to grasp a 3-2 victory at the death after City had seemingly clawed their way back, having been down 2-0. It should have been 3-0 but Ashley Young was wrongly found to be offside. Could City have chased down a 3-0 lead? Certainly. But it was United who proved just that little bit stronger.
It should be noted that we didn’t see the likes of Ryan Giggs or Paul Scholes in this one - it was clearly United’s first choice line-up who were all sent out with a specific plan. Though they did look rattled on occasion, they did their jobs well and got the result that puts them 6 points clear at the top of the table heading into the marquee Christmas fixtures.
As it currently stands, United have been shortened into an ultra-slim 4/7 for the Premier League title. This is by far the lowest odds they’ve been listed at all year. The scariest part about it is that United haven’t really been playing all that well up to this point. They have been regularly shipping early goals again weak sides but then storm back to get the job done when necessary.
City are a 2/1 shot to win the English Premier League and they look as though they will have to do another late-running charge if they’re going to make the most of their title defense.
Chelsea can be backed at a 12/1 price to secure a long shot Premier League title. Could you imagine what people would think of Rafa Benitez then? They look to be playing for third spot at this point and United look difficult to knock off their stride.
It’s important to note that Sir Alex Ferguson’s men have already beaten City, Chelsea and Liverpool away for the first time since the 1910’s.
