Manchester United Still in Title Contention
Manchester United's Premiership title odds have been cut from 6/1 to 4/1 second favourites by William Hill. The Reds are now only six points behind Chelsea after they beat Portsmouth 2-1 at home in the late Saturday game. Wayne Rooney was the hero for the Old Trafford club scoring the opener inside ten minutes and then the winner fairly late on. Man U meet Chelsea at home in the middle of April, but before then must face Palace (a), Fulham (h), Blackburn (h) and Norwich (a). Based on recent form maximum points from these games is a definite possibility. Chelsea also have a relatively soft schedule until the Old Trafford game with a quartet of games against the current bottom four clubs, plus a match at home to Birmingham. Arsenal are still mathematically in contention, but after only picking up a point at Southampton are now ten points off the pace having played a game more. VC Bet look to have it about right by offering 50/1 on the Gunners retaining their title. In the race to claim the final Champions League spot, Everton took another step closer to achieving this by winning 3-1 at Villa Park. They are now eight points ahead of local rivals Liverpool who do though have a game in hand. The two Merseyside clubs meet on the 20th March. At the other end of the table, Crystal Palace moved four points clear of the drop zone by beating Birmingham. The Eagles are now out to even money to make an immediate return to the division below. Southampton are still just about in touch and will hope to be within striking distance when they travel to Selhurst Park in the penultimate match of the season. The Saints are 4/6 for the drop (originally recommended at 6/1 by readaBet.com)
