Manchester United vs Besiktas 2009 Champions League Betting Tips

Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United side are listed as the strong 4/7 favourites as they make the journey to Istanbul to face the Turkish champions. You'll find Besiktas available at a lengthy 11/2 if you think they have what it takes to dispel last year's Champions League runners up. The draw is available at 13/5, but I fancy United to get off the mark early and start the campaign well.
The favoured correct score outcome us Manchester United 1-0 at 11/2 with United 2-0 the second favourite option at 6/1. A 1-1 draw is listed at 13/2 while a goalless draw will pay out at 7/1. I don't think we'll see a stalemate here, and I do fancy United to keep a clean sheet now that Rio Ferdinand is back in the frame alongside Nemanja Vidic. Besiktas to win 1-0 would pay out at 14/1 while a 2-1 victory is listed at 22/1.
Should United win both halves, you're looking at 11/8. I think this could be one of those matches that picks up after half-time, so I'm not really sure whether this is such a good bet at short odds like those. Draw/Man United is listed at 16/5 and that looks a bit better to me. Should United concede early like they did at Tottenham, a Besiktas/Manchester United call would garner a 25/1 price.
You can back United to score in both halves at 7/4 and United to win both halves will pay out at 11/4. Should United score first and fail to win, you're looking at 5/1. United to come from behind and win is at 8/1 (a nice hedge on the Besiktas/Manchester United half-time/full-time market).
United are odds on (10/11) to keep a clean sheet and 11/8 to win to nil.
In terms of the goalscorer markets, Wayne Rooney is the favoured goalscorer in the match and, after that stellar goal against Spurs at the weekend, you'd have to fancy him to score. He does well against Turkish opposition (remember his first United game?) and his 4/1 first and last goalscorer price is quite generous. He is 11/10 anytime while Michael Owen and Dimitar Berbatov are both at 11/8. Ryan Giggs got the start on the weekend and played well, he is 11/4 anytime while Ji-Sung Park (who just signed a new contract) will pay out at 3/1 anytime.
Additionally, Rooney is 6/1 to hit a brace and 33/1 to score a hat-trick.
Nihat Kahveci is the favoured goalscorer for Besiktas at 11/4. Marcio Nobre and Bobo are at 3/1.
I'm confident that this match is United's for the taking. It will take a lot for the Turkish side to get the better of the Red Devils and I think 2-0 is the favoured option. Watch out though, if United get two quick ones, as they could go on to put up a massive total should the floodgates open. I could see two goals from Rooney, but should Anderson get the start, I will be backing him to score two from two. He must be brimming with confidence.
