MANCHESTER UNITED VS BESIKTAS CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TIPS
This is an interesting fixture, with Man United taking on respected Turkish side Besiktas, in that we will likely see a full smattering of United’s up-and-coming young stars. Having already secured qualification to the next round, Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to deploy a “ones-for-the-future” type of line-up that is rumoured to include Gabriel Obertan, Federico Macheda and Darron Gibson.
Personally, I have a lot of time for Gibson and I think he has a bit of the Paul Scholes to him with his ability to take long-range shots and help initiate attacking plays. I think he is going to become a Manchester United regular akin to Darren Fletcher.
You’ll find United trading at around 1.4 with Betfair, but there is still a pile of volume on this match with nearly $2.1 million (US) matched three hours before kick-off. Besiktas trade at a whopping 13.0 and the draw carries a 5.0 price. Besiktas could be as high as 17 minutes before kick-off.
In terms of the goalscorer betting, Macheda carries shorter odds than anybody else with a 2.38 price compared to Wayne Rooney’s 2.82. Danny Wellbeck is available at 2.68 while Gabriel Obertan is well-priced at 4.2. He has come so close in his previous matches even with just 15 minutes here and 20 minutes there. If United start to play the type of game that they’ll want to play, I like Obertan to score. His interplay with Patrice Evra is nothing short of breath-taking and the confident, arrogant way he attacks defenders in one-on-one situations is just the type of thing United have been lacking this year.
Darron Gibson is a hefty 5.5 to score. For a central midfielder with an eye for long-raneg shots to have 70 minutes or so, I record he’ll get on the scoresheet as well.
Nihat is favoured to do the business for Besiktas with a 6.6 price just behind Bobo’s 4.6. Rodrigo Tabata trades at 7.8.
United are well-priced to win both halves at 2.52 and a 1-0 margin at half-time pays out at 3.4. A 2-0 margin garners an 8.0 price tag.
In terms of the correct score betting, it seems to be favouring a 1-0 or 2-0 margin to United with both options priced at around 7.5 and 6.5, respectively. 2-1 to United pays a solid 10.0 while a 3-0 victory is trading at around the same margin. I don’t likely see this as a four goal game for Man U, unless these youngsters really do conjure up something special. With Sir Alex Ferguson in charge, sometimes you just never know what you’ll see next. 4-0 to United pays 19.5.
My selection is Obertan to score at 4.0 with a 2-0 Man U victory.
