Manchester United vs Chelsea Betting Tips
There is simply no point in being too overly analytical when assessing the best betting opportunities in Wednesday's evenings clash between newly crowned Premiership champions Manchester United and the side that deposed, Chelsea, given that it's an inconsequential fixture. The Blues only have themselves to blame for not still being in with a shout in the title race, for they dropped critical points when being held to draws by both Newcastle and Bolton prior to their third consecutive league draw at The Emirates on Sunday. To their credit, though, Jose Mourinho's charges demonstrated great resolve against Arsenal on Sunday, coming away with a creditable draw despite being reduced to ten men and going a goal behind moments before the interval. But there is absolutely nothing for either side to gain by winning this match. Those that think that pride will come into it on Wednesday should think again. Indeed, both managers will have one eye firmly affixed to their next meeting ten days later when they will do battle at the all new Wembley Stadium, with the FA Cup the prize on offer. Sir Alex has made it clear that he'll be resting key players, with the likes of Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs certain to sit this one out. Mourinho will not risk bringing Drogba or Robben back in this meaningless game, and young strikers Scott Sinclair and Ben Sahar may both get an airing against the champions. With the benefit of home advantage, Chelsea are favourites at a top-priced 6/5, ahead of United, who are generally 2/1 chances with the draw available at 9/4. I have to say, I agree with the bookies' take on this game and, if either side does prevail, I'm confident it'll be Chelsea. To lose at home against the team that dethroned them would add insult to injury. It's not wise to get too heavily involved in encounters of this nature, but I'm pretty sweet on backing Chelsea to keep a clean sheet at 6/4 with Betfred. Against my internal wisdom, which says not to steam in, I am going to do just that - steam in. The Blues' defensive record at home is exemplary. Once again, Chelsea can keep it clean at 'The Bridge'. Verdict - 4pts Chelsea to keep a clean sheet @ 6/4 (Betfred)
