MANCHESTER UNITED VS NEWCASTLE PREDICTIONS AND BETTING TIPS
The only two sides yet to play in the 2010/11 English Premier League finally get things underway at Old Trafford this evening. We're expecting a first-rate contest and, while United had a great pre-season and look to be in good form, they have always dropped a match against less-talented opposition early on in the season for the past few years.
Newcastle might just fancy their chances here, but it's going to take a hell of a performance to dispose of a Manchester United side that is playing with a bit more youthful verve than they showed last season.
In regards to the outright odds, United are priced at 2/9 while Newcastle can be backed at a lengthy 11/1. The draw is trading at 5/1 and the only way I think that's going to happen is if Newcastle score first.
The favoured correct score outcome is a 2-0 result to United, which trades at 11/2 while a 1-0 victory is listed at 13/2. A 2-1 result rewards at a 17/2 price tag. 3-2 to United is listed at 33/1 while a 4-2 result pays out at a whopping 50/1.
A 1-1 draw is listed at 11/1 and that's an indication of just how favoured United genuinely are.
I suspect a fair amount of goals here and it looks like the bookmakers are in agreement. The over/under is set at 2.5 and you can get a 4/7 price on over 2.5 and the under is listed at 13/10. Over 3.5 is trading at 6/4 while under 3.5 is available at a 1/2 price.
Newcastle will be looking to make this one a bit of a scrappy affair and I reckon they'll come out to defend and attempt to kick United all over the place. I could see a few cards here, and a red wouldn't be a big surprise at all. A red card to be shown at any point in the match is paying out at 9/2.
Newcastle are odds-on to receive the first card with an 8/15 price ahead of United's 9.5.
I think Sir Alex Ferguson's men will look to get things started pretty quickly and if you think they'll win the opening 15 minutes, you can back that at 13/5.
Manchester United have three players listed at odds-on to score at any point in the match. Wayne Rooney will be raring to go here and you can back him at a 1/2 price to score anytime, while he's short-priced at 9/4 to score first or last. He's at 16/1 for a hat-trick against the Toon Army. Former Newcastle player Michael Owen is listed at 8/11 to score anytime but I'd wait to see if he's named in the starting lineup before placing a bet there.
I've got my eye on Javier Hernandez, aka Chicharito, to score at anytime with a 10/11 price. He's 7/2 to score first or last, 4/1 to score two or more and 20/1 to score a hat-trick. With his pace and finishing ability, coupled with Rooney's ability to find the perfect pass, I wouldn't be surprised to see him grab a couple if Newcastle don't perform well.
Berbatov is priced at even-money with Antonio Valencia at 2/1. Ryan Giggs is priced at 9/4 alongside Nani while Park Ji-Sung and Paul Scholes share a 10/3 listing. Keep your eye on Patrice Evra at a 12/1 price.
