MANNY PACQUIAO VS FLOYD MAYWEATHER LATEST NEWS AND ODDS PREVIEW
Plenty of major bookmakers are gearing up for some massive volume as word has hit the wires that Floyd Mayweather Junior has agreed terms for a welterweight title bout against Manny Pacquiao. The signature apparently hit paper yesterday and there is no looking back now- the tentative date is March 13, which is way better than the December bout that many had assumed would happen. Frankly, too much could have happened in that time, and they will be helped by the momentum here with the fight only four months away.
It will be fought at welterweight with a maximum of 147 pounds. There is a light-heavyweight bout scheduled for March 13 with Roy Jones Jr. and Bernard Hopkins likely to have their bout moved up. Many observers expect this fight to break the all-time record for PPV boxing.
Across the board, bookmakers are giving the edge to Mayweather and you’ll find him at 888 sports for 8/13 while Pacquiao sits at 5/4 for a victory by any means. Ladbrokes has Mayweather available at 4/7 while Pacquiao is again at 5/4. Paddy Power carries the same margins as Ladbrokes. William Hill lists Floyd Mayweather at 8/15 while they boast one of the best prices available on Pacquiao with an 11/8 margin. Stan James lists Mayweather at 8/13 with Pacquiao priced at 6/5.
The only odds out right now are the outright margins, but I think that bookmakers will likely favour a Mayweather victory by a decision while Pacquiao will be better-priced for a KO. I’m not sure how this is going to work out, because you know that Pacquiao and his trainers will have Mayweather clocked. Pacquiao pulled out some new stuff against Cotto (a fight that should have ended three rounds sooner) and I’m intrigued to see what’s up his sleeves for the Mayweather fight.
I’m just wondering if there’s a bookmaker that will give me odds on a Pacquiao title fight/election double!
