Maradona Interested in Premier League Move

Argentine legend Diego Maradona has hinted that he would be interested in making a move to English Premier League management should the opportunity arise.

The 49-year-old led Argentina to the World Cup quarter-finals in South Africa earlier this year where they were convincingly beaten by Germany. However, he has a distinct lack of managerial experience and would represent a huge gamble for any Premier League chairman to appoint him as manager.

In an interview with Sky Sports news Maradona said: "I would like to manage in the Premier League. It has very good teams, an exceptional level and great players.

"The only problem is all the teams I like in England have good coaches. If any important job comes along I will accept it."

Maradona was linked with the Aston Villa job when it became vacant earlier this season but admitted that he was neither contacted nor did he apply for the job.

The former Napoli and Barcelona player turns 50 tomorrow and has been doing a series of interviews as the world of football looks to celebrate the birthday of one of the sport’s greatest ever players. As a player he almost singlehandedly led Napoli to two Serie A titles and Argentina to World Cup glory in Mexico ’86.

His glittering career, however, was littered with injuries and later drug problems leaving many in doubt as to whether he can be called the best player in the world. It is often argued whether he or Pele, who recently turned 70, is the greatest of all time.
