Martin Jol Trades as Favourite for Blackburn Post

The English Premier League was rocked by another sudden managerial departure as Sam Allardyce was sacked from his position as Blackburn manager. After Newcastle dispatched Chris Hughton for the services of Alan Pardew, the latest sacking has taken the public by surprise.

Blackburn were recently purchased by foreign owners and a number of observers claim that the new owners intentions had more to do with Allardyce’s dismissal than the teams’ performance.

One of the main issues that led to Big Sam’s big dismissal is likely the availability of Martin Jol, who many had tipped to take over Newcastle after a sudden departure from Ajax. The chance to appoint the Dutchman over the Englishman, who seems to float around from lower-mid-table side to lower-mid-table side, probably seemed like something they needed to move on immediately and it’s hardly a surprise that Jol is the current betting favourite to take over at Ewood Park.

As it currently stands, Martin Jol’s odds for the Blackburn job are priced at 3/1 while Martin O’Neill is the second favourite at 6/1. O’Neill is likely looking for a more prestigious appointment than Blackburn and that price seems a bit short. Alan Shearer is trading at 8/1 while Graeme Souness and Alan Curbishley are available at 10/1. Chris Hughton to take over at Blackburn is also priced at 10/1 but you reckon that Jol would need to turn the position down in order for Hughton to have a go.

Former Hull City manager Phil Brown is available at 16/1 alongside Slaven Bilic with Chris Sutton and Tugay being the longest shots on the board at 33/1.
