MESUT OZIL LOOKS TO BE HEADING TO MANCHESTER UNITED AS ODDS START TO DROP
With a breaking story being released by Metro dropping one of the biggest clues that Mesut Ozil might be United bound, we've already seen Manchester United's odds to win the 2010/11 Premier League start to trend downwards at Betfair- the world's most popular online betting exchange.
Chelsea remain the outright favourite to win with a price trading at 2.9, but Manchester United are beginning to trend downwards and you can back them at a 3.45 margin, currently.
Ozil would fit in quite well at Manchester United and it is likely that Fergie will see him as the long-term replacement for Paul Scholes. Sir Alex Ferguson watched Ozil in a warm-up match against Fulham back on August 8 and many people are starting to believe that a signature may be hitting the page very soon.
It goes without saying that this would be a big coup for Sir Alex, as many people believed a deal between Werder Bremen and Barcelona was effectively sealed. Mesut Ozil's odds for a transfer were removed from virtually all betting sites once the Barcelona news became available and a market has not reappeared.
Things really went hay-wire after Metro released their story and it was then repeated in BBC's Gossip Column. Essentially, a link on the Manchester United website placed Mesut Ozil as a first-team player in the Manchester United side. This may have just been a programming quirk or something like that, but you can see how it sends the papers and the betting markets into overdrive.
Interestingly enough, United were already making up ground on Chelsea after stuffing them 3-1 in the 2010 Community Shield. That was a great result for the Red Devils and they genuinely did overpower Chelsea. There is some real quality looking to break out of this United side and adding a young up-and-coming star to a midfield that could really use a bit more creativity will likely pay some very big dividends.
