MICHAEL OWEN PRICE DROPS SHARPLY FOR 2009-10 ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE TOP GOALSCORER
Michael Owen has gotten off to a blinder during Manchester United's annual tour of the far-east, scoring two goals in two games. Both strikes were vintage Owen and you could argue that they were real poacher's efforts- which is exactly what United signed him for. This quality display has seen Owen throw the bookies for a loop and he has taken a sharp drop in price for top scorer in the 2009/10 English Premier League. He is currently third favourite at an 11/1 price-down sharply from the 20/1 he was listed at previously. Fernando Torres remains the outright favourite to score more goals than anyone else this year and his 9/4 price tells no lies. Didier Drogba is sitting at 15/2 before we get to Owen at 11/1. He's just a step in front of Nicolas Anelka and teammate Wayne Rooney, who both share a 12/1 price. Arsenal's Robin van Persie is the sixth favourite candidate for the premier league golden boot at 12/1. You'll find Manchester City's Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe at 18/1 while Andrei Arshavin remains an interesting option at 20/1- a price shared with Dimitar Berbatov, Carlos Tevez, Robinho and Steven Gerrard. Frank Lampard, Roque Santa Cruz and Eduardo all sit at 25/1. Other interesting bets include Federico Macheda at 50/1, Gabriel Agbonlahor at 66/1 and Theo Walcott at 100/1. Personally, I'm of the opinion that Owen is fantastic value to outscore the competition, but we all know that he'll need to stay as injury-free as possible. The same goes for Torres in my opinion, and I don't see much value in betting on him. Drogba is an enigmatic player and the price is just a touch too short. Wayne Rooney isn't a bad tip either and Nicolas Anelka was able to get the business done last year. Be sure to keep in mind that you can back players each-way at 1/4 odds on the top four places- this brings some of those longer odds contenders into play and anybody at 40/1 or higher would bring a tidy payday.
