MUMBAI INDIANS vs. GUYANA- PREVIEW AND PREDICTIONS
Mumbai take on Guyana this afternoon in what is a do-or-die scenario for both teams.
With Mumbai having already been expected to thrash all put in front of them, eyebrows were raised this week with the franchise losing both group games- leaving the team struggling to keep their campaign alive only five days into the Champions League Twenty20.
From a cricket knowledge perspective this clash should present one of the biggest mismatches of the tournament with a line-up littered with the most valuable players in international Twenty20 cricket, coupled with a notable section of the most consistent domestic batsmen of IPL 2010.
Put this up against a Caribbean outfit whose most recognisable talent lies in the out-of-form Ramnaresh Sarwan, and one would feel that the result is already a foregone conclusion.
Mumbai head in as heavy favourites with the pick of, already ridiculously one-sided odds, on Betfair offered at 1.09, to Guyana's 11.
On the batting front Guyana looked noticeably thin in their tournament opener whereby they were rolled over for 103 by the Challengers in the most one-sided match of the tournament thus far.
Sarwan is favoured to top score by William Hill with 4.33, with Chattergoon next up at 5.0
A worry for Guyana is their bowling attack, bereft of pace and heavily reliant on spinners- a nightmare scenario against the line up that Mumbai has in place.
On the Mumbai batting front Tendulkar, despite failing cheaply in his last outing, is once again hot favourite to top the score sheet with 2.87- a massive margin on second placed Dharwan at 5.5.
A personal favourite, and what most punter would consider a serious challenge, JP Duminy is set at 6.0- watch this one as Duminy is due a big innings, with today offering an opportune moment
Another hardly inspiring, yet safe bet, is Mumbai to outscore Guyana at 1.4 to Guyana’s long shot 2.37
While many will be saying that this could go any way based on the format, simply put- Mumbai will not lose this.
Neither team can afford defeat with a Mumbai loss resulting in a plane ticket home to a rather unforgiving home reception
