MURRAY BEGINS MUTUA MADRILENA CAMPAIGN
Andy Murray is set to begin his Mutua Madrilena campaign today when he takes on Juan Ignacio Chela in the second round. William Hill has released an entire selection of markets on their matchup.
Britain’s No.1 Murray is in the midst of an underwhelming clay court swing and this is his last chance to get some momentum going before the French Open kicks off in under two weeks time. Can he finally find form on the red dirt or will he yet again bite the dust, inquiring minds want to know.
He has a relatively straightforward opening match in Madrid, against Chela. So much so that he is a firm 2/9 favourite to win outright while Chela is trading at 3/1 puppy odds.
Murray leads the series 4-1, including a 1-0 edge on clay. Murray beat Chela at the 2009 French Open in straight convincing sets 6-2, 6-2, 6-1. Last year was a good year for Murray on clay. In fact, it was his best ever turnout. So far, he hasn’t tapped into that wavelength, but, theoretically, he still can.
Murray can be backed at 8/13 to win in straight sets and 16/5 to win in 3 sets. Considering clay is not his speciality, a three-set affair seems like it would be likely, however, Murray has yet to drop a set to Chela in five meetings spanning all surfaces.
Chela is trading at 6/1 to win in straight sets and an interesting 13/2 to take it in three. Chela is well aware of Murray’s shortcomings on clay and his recent spate of poor form. Capitalizing on both these factors is certainly possible but what are his realistic chances of doing so.
Determining the number of sets in this match, irrespective of the winner is also available. William Hill bookies are favouring a straight set affair at 1/3 odds and a three set marathon at 19/10.
Betting on the correct score is also available and there are many options to choose from. Murray is best priced for a 6-3 win at 7/2 but 6-2 and 6-1 are other attractive options at 11/2 and 19/2, respectively. A drawn out first set is well priced as well with 7-5 trading at 10/1 and 7-6 at 13/2.
Chela is best priced at 6-4 in the first set which is tipped at 9/1. For a tiebreak win in the first set he is trading at 11/1 and for a 6-3 win he is offered at 12/1. Other options are beyond the 20/1 mark.
