NADAL- DJOKOVIC CLASH SHAPING UP TO BE A CLASSIC- ODDS AND TIPS
With persistent rain causing the US Open final to be postponed until this afternoon, fans and punters alike are chomping at the bit in what is shaping up to be an epic encounter.
Djokovic will be savouring the extra day's rest, giving him time to recover from his five-set semi-final win over, until then, tournament favourite Roger Federer. Djokovic was quoted by the BBC as stating; "I was having fun yesterday after the match, calling for the rain to give me more time, and here it is"
However, with that said all eyes are on Rafael Nadal as he seeks to become only the seventh man to win all four Grand Slam tennis tournaments, in what is his first final at Flushing Meadows.
Djokovic will compete in his second US Final after having been comprehensively beaten by Federer in 2007.
Another driving factor, which is sure to push Nadal, is that the Spaniard has already won the French Open and Wimbledon crowns this season, leaving him to become the first player since Rod Laver in 1969 to win the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open titles within the same year.
Paddypower has the pick of the odds with a Nadal win showing at 1.36, against what many must consider a rather unflattering 3.10 in Djokovic’s- considering his showing against Federer only a few days ago.
However once cannot take away from the current form of Nadal, that has seen him yet to drop a set at Flushing Meadows, having only lost two service games throughout the tournament.
The real money on this one is going to be made on set betting with William Hill setting a Nadal 3-0 clean sweep at 2.62, and 3-1 win at 3.5. Djokovic to win at an unlikely 3-0 is at 11.0, with what many consider the likely scenario on this long shot win of 3-2 at 7.0 even.
Bet365 has a scenario of Nadal to win the 1st set, as well as the match at 1.72- probably the real earner of the lot for those more conservative punters.
In summary, anything less than a Nadal win is hard to fathom. After watching Nadal in his 2008 classic in the 'up against the wall' epic Wimbledon final encounter with Federer- one would consider that he is the man for the big occasion.
Victory over Djokovic would be the ninth Grand Slam title of his career- making him the second youngest player after Don Budge to complete a career slam of the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open titles.
This final is all about Nadal...and if you are a betting man...put your pennies on this man. He will not disappoint
