NEMANJA VIDIC FAVOURITE TO WIN PFA PLAYER OF THE YEAR

As the Premier League season carries on, the accolades are starting to pour in as football observers the world over are heaping praise on Manchester United's star of the season- Serbia's Nemanja Vidic. Having helped United complete an unprecedented run of games without conceding a single goal, the midst of an injury crisis, Vidic's contrition simply can't be understated. Marshalling the rear-guard alongside young Jonny Evans, John O'Shea or Gary Neville, in lieu of his preferred partnership with Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja has been able to get it done all season and has knocked in his fair share of important goals to boot. Betfair is offering up a special market related to the PFA Player of the Year Award. There's a long list of players on there, including some of the top names in world football, but a quick scan of the odds indicates that this is a race between three different players, and Nemanja Vidic is the odds-on favourite. Vidic is listed at an even 3 compared to Steve Gerrard's 3.45 and Cristiano Ronaldo's 3.85. While Ronaldo's season has paled in comparison to last year, Gerrard really hasn't been playing exceptionally well at club level and I find the prices are a bit distorted. Steve Gerrard has the advantage of being English and being a pundit's favourite, while seemingly everybody hates Ronaldo he just hasn't had as quality a season as he did last year. His performances have been good, but he hasn't dominated games. The PFA Player of the Year Award is meant to reward the key performer whose footballing ability provided the most impact on the season. Barring a shocking loss of form, or a long-term indjury, you can't give that to anybody but Nemanja Vidic.
