NEWCASTLE FAVOURED IN BLACKPOOL CLASH- OVERVIEW AND TIPS
St James Park plays host to a 'unique' clash this afternoon when the Magpies take on fellow Premiership arrivals Blackpool. The term ‘ironic' being in that to think of Newcastle being in any league other than the Premiership... feels ludicrous.
With both Premiership newcomers having had remarkably similar topsy turvy starts to the season, one would expect Newcastle to use their depth in squad talent to try and surge into the top half of the already bustling EPL table.
Betfair is the pick of the bookies for this clash in placing a Newcastle win at 1.58, with an unlikely draw anchored at 4.3. If Blackpool were to shock all with an away win at the ever intimidating St James stronghold, one could walk away a wealthy person, with odds set at 6.8
In prematch news- Newcastle's Sol Campbell has proven his fitness in two outings for the reserves, and could be making his much anticipated debut, with new signings Hatem Ben Arfa and Cheik Tiote also expected to get a run.
Andy Carroll is expected to be fit after a minor ankle injury and is immediately placed as William Hill's favourite to open the scoring for the Magpies at 4.33. Captain Kevin Nolan, after already having netted 4 goals this season, is also a good viewing at 2.25 to score at any point in the match.
Blackpool have plenty of options in attack as Marlon Harewood has been declared fit and is set at 4.33 to score- great value for money. New Blackpool recruit DJ Campbell is also immediately feeling the pressure of expectations in being tipped as favourite to score for the club at 3.75.
There is much confusion amongst the football community as to whether this will be a high scoring affair, or a lesson in defence from both teams.
With that said the options are there with Betfair placing odds of 9.4 on a 2-0 Newcastle victory. A 1-0 win in favour of Blackpool is at 9.8. My pick is set as a 3-1 Magpie win at a colossal 14.0. Correct Score betting is by far the most lucrative of the lot...and by far the most exciting.
For the more conservative individual William Hill offers a 'Double Chance' bet on results with either a Newcastle win or Draw result set at 1.12- easy money- or a Newcastle or Blackpool win at 1.17.
To place the above bet, as well as on over 2.5 goals to be scored in the match at 1.61, and you will be laughing all the way to the bank.
Blackpool were humbled 4-1 by Newcastle at St James' Park in April in the Championship, and one must feel that not much has changed since then. This season is a watershed up North, with little sympathy for failure from the home crowd.
Newcastle have to win this...Newcastle will win this.
