Newcastle vs Manchester City Betting Preview

Manchester City are within striking distance of the English Premier League summit and a victory over a seemingly resurgent-looking Newcastle side would vault them ahead of Chelsea by a point and even on 21 games apiece. With Manchester United looking like they’re competing for fourth instead of first this year, City knows that the best couple of months are absolutely crucial to maintaining their momentum in a tight title race that could see several teams still in the mix towards the latter stages of April and early May.

Despite the fact that Manchester City are the considerable favourites to win this match, the fixture will be played at St James’ Park - meaning that the bookmakers think City be able to show up and simply roll on towards their next competitive fixture. But is there a chance that the Newcastle game isn’t going to be an easy one?

As it currently stands, punters will find City trading around 8/13 prior to the kick-off and you can expect them to be heavily parlayed with Liverpool in the next fixture. Newcastle are priced at a 9/2 margin and that’s not a bad wager if you think they may be able to pull off something big at home today.

The draw is trading at 11/4 and looks like an interesting option. If there is any chance the match ends in a tie - it will be because of a late (and very dramatic) goal.

After a stellar series of recent performances Alvaro Negredo has really proved his class in front of City’s fans and it’s unsurprising that he can be backed as the shortest anytime goalscorer in the match with an even money price.

Edin Dzeko can be backed at 6/5 to score anytime while Stevan Jovetic is a 7/4 option. With no Sergio Aguero marauding around up front, the Citizens will have to rely on the other players to fill in that gap seamlessly - which is something that Negredo is very much in the process of doing.

For Newcastle, the bookmakers are looking at Loic Remy as the most likely goalscorer with a 9/4 anytime price and a 15/2 listing to score first or last.
