Newcastle vs Wigan Betting Preview

The Magpies face off against the Latics tonight and the bookmakers expect Newcastle to get the better of Wigan as both sides look to turn things around a bit and start generating more momentum. Newcastle haven’t really been able to replicate the highs of last year yet and there are obviously a few issues with them actually being able to get back to that type of performance.

There is a lot to like about this Newcastle side when they are truly on song, but it remains to be seen whether they can offer up the consistency that gave them the edge last season.
Demba Ba is usually key to operations for the Magpies and you expect him to get off the mark here if they’re going to actually get the result. Look for him to score anytime and for Newcastle to win - William Hill are offering up a 7/4 price if that happens. It’s not a bad combo when you factor in that Newcastle are a slim 21/20 to get the outright result over 90 minutes and that Demba Ba himself is trading at a slim 8/11 to actually score an anytime goal.
Neither side really moves up the table much if they get the result here - Fulham sits on 17 points with a superior goal difference - but it will help put some distance between them and the sides hovering around the relegation zone.
Wigan are perennial contenders for the drop but always seem to be able to pull off some last day heroics to retain their premiership status for another year. That will likely happen again this time around with both Reading and QPR looking like they’ll have a tough time remaining in the division.
That leaves a shootout between Sunderland, Southampton, Aston Villa, Wigan and Newcastle for that final relegation spot with many assuming Norwich may sink back into the mire as well. As interesting as it is to see Arsenal and Liverpool languishing in mid-table, the real fascinating battle this year may be at the bottom end.
Look for Wigan around 11/4 for the outright result while the draw can be backed at an 11/5 price tag. Jordi Gomez looks to be the go-to-guy for Wigan Athletic and you can lock in odds of 6/1 for him to score anytime and Wigan to grab all three points from this fixture.
The favoured correct score outcome looks to be a 1-1 draw, which trades at 6/1. A bore 0-0 would pay out at a relatively enticing 10/1 and, with so much on the line for both sides here, neither team might want to commit that many men forward.
