Newscastle vs Man U Betting Preview
Newcastle go into their FA Cup semi-final against Man Utd on Sunday hoping to avoid the same disappointment suffered in Portugal on Thursday night. Looking set for the last four in the UEFA Cup, the Magpies collapsed in the second half. There was also the added disappointment of players suffering injuries against Sporting. Newcastle have major doubts over Titus Bramble, Jermaine Jenas, Celestine Babayaro, Aaron Hughes, while Kieron Dyer and Lee Bowyer are suspended. What it could mean a quick recall for Lauren Robert who became the latest in a long line of Magpies to show dissent to the club. Putting aside the ill-advised comments, the Frenchman is a quality player capable of the spectacular. Despite the number of injuries and suspensions, the Northeast club still have a few talented players to call upon. Boumsong will add some much needed strength to the defence, while Nicky Butt ought to add solidity to the midfield. And then there is of course Alan Shearer who is 5/2 to score, although it would take a very brave soul to back someone who hasn't scored in a domestic competition since early February, and will be up against the second meanest defence in the land. The obvious bet is a straight Man Utd win but at such a skinny price, it is hard to get too excited - especially when the Reds have hardly been in inspirational form. What may be worth a small investment is Paul Scholes to score the first goal. The former England International has scored against Newcastle in four of the last six matches, and so clearly enjoys playing against the black and white shirt. Scholes is a best price 8/1 at bluesq.
