NEXT ASTON VILLA MANAGER ODDS: BOB BRADLEY CURRENT BETFAIR FAVOURITE
With the Premier League season starting in just a few days, Aston Villa suddenly find themselves without a manager as the well-respected Martin O'Neill has resigned from his job at Villa Park. It's clear that things were much worse than initially assumed and attention now turns to his replacement and where Martin O'Neill will pop up next.
Betfair markets are generally a great way to gauge where these types of things are going and American manager Bob Bradley, whose name was bandied about for the Fulham post, is the current betting favourite to take over at Villa.
I imagine the logic there is that Villa is run by American Randy Lerner and Bradley's signature would be, simultaneously, a great experiment and a potential brand-building exercise in the United States.
Betfair prices Bradley at a 6.4 price while Martin Jol is priced at 14.0. Sven Goran Eriksson is priced at 10.0 while Slaven Bilic, who is linked with every single Premier League job regardless of plausibility, can be backed at 15.0. Claudio Ranieri is trading at 16.0 and he's one to keep an eye on.
Personally, I don't think Martin Jol will be making the move as Ajax demonstrated just how far they will go to keep him. Alan Curbishley is also in the running at 17.0 but he wouldn't be the high-profile signature that would instill confidence from Villains fans.
I think Bob Bradley is a great bet and I think he would excel in the Premier League. You know this isn't some all over the place type of Betfair market as Paddy Power lists Bradley at a 9/2 price, just behind Jol who trades as the 4/1 favourite.
Martin O'Neill is favoured to take his next post at Manchester City, with a 6/4 price. Newcastle United are listed at 4/1 while O'Neill being unveiled as England manager is priced out at 11/2. A return to Celtic trades at 15/2.
