Next England Captain Betting Tips Pt 2
- By A.J. Ryder on July 22, 2014 20:26 GMTAs it currently stands, punters will find Wayne Rooney available at a very slim price hovering anywhere from a low of 3/10 all the way up to 4/9 depending on whom you’re wagering with. That price has shortened considerably as a number of punters seem convinced that Roy Hodgson not selecting Wayne Rooney will be seen as a snub here in this regard - just as he is supposedly entering the prime years of his career.

There really only appears to be three genuine contenders for the role of England captain even though you will find odds on everybody on the team (and even some that aren’t) with the longest shot on the board being either Andros Townsend or (gulp!) Andy Carroll at 150/1, respectively.
Aside from Wayne Rooney, whose price seems to go shorter by the hour here, the remaining challengers to the crown are Gary Cahill and Joe Hart. Cahill in particular is an interesting wager with a price that hovers between a high of 5/1 and a low of 7/2. It will be interesting to see how the movement of Rooney’s odds affect the odds on Gary Cahill and you do wonder whether Roy Hodgson might just take the no-drama option and select Cahill and go for a series of solid performances, England do well being led from the back, instead of effectively rolling the dice with the Manchester United striker.
Joe Hart is the only other player trading at a competitive price and you’ll find him available around 6/1. With England not really playing well at the World Cup, you would have to estimate that the opportunity is wide open for either of these three if they have been able to get the back-door networking done effectively. It may come down to who genuinely wants it, but Hart’s up-and-down performances for both club and country might put him at a disadvantage against the likes of Rooney and Cahill.
