NEXT ENGLAND & WALES MANAGER BETTING ODDS
Plenty of news on the international managerial front today as John Toshack looks set to step down as Wales manager and Fabio Capello confirms that he will retire from football following England’s Euro2012 campaign.
As a result the respective next manager betting markets have sparked into life today. Let us start with taking a look at the next Wales manager betting.
Heading the betting in this market is the current Millwall manager Kenny Jackett. Despite being born in Watford Jackett earned 31 caps for Wales before his playing career was prematurely ended at the age of 28 due to a serious knee injury. Following stints in the hot seat at both Watford and Swansea Jackett took up his current position as Millwall manager in November 2007 and went on to lead his side to promotion via the play-offs to the Championship last season.
Other names in the running include current Wales under-21 manage Brian Flynn (7/2 with Skybet), Chris Coleman (4/1) and Ryan Giggs (14/1).
As with the Welsh FA it seems that the English FA will look to either a native or a man with significant ties to English football when appointing Capello’s successor.
Heading the betting at Ladbrokes is Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp who certainly seems to tick all the boxes. He has the media eating out of his hand at Spurs, and we all know how crucial it is to have the English media on side, he is English, he apparently has the respect of a lot of his players and he is getting results at White Hart Lane.
Next in the betting is either Stuart Pearce or Roy Hodgson depending on which bookmaker you use. Pearce has been a right-hand man of sorts to Capello and his chances of slipping in to the number one roll will largely depend upon how the Italian’s tenure ends. If he retires in celebratory scenes then the FA may sense that continuity is the best policy, if Euro 2012 goes the same way as the 2010 World Cup then they may opt for a clean break.
