NEXT LABOUR LEADER ODDS SHOW DAVID MILIBAND HEAVY FAVOURITE
With the David and Nick show in full effect over the past few days the attention is starting to turn to who will take over Gordon Brown's position as the next leader of the Labour Party. Practically since the election results were revealed, David Miliband has been the heavy favourite and virtually all bookmakers are considering him odds-on to get the gig.
One of the biggest movers and shakers over the past while, however, has been his brother Ed Miliband who was previously listed at around 10/1 and now trades at a slim 5/2 margin. David Miliband is still a heavy favourite and is trading at around 1/2 with popular Irish bookmaker Paddy Power.
Ed Balls can be backed at a 10/1 margin and he hasn't really moved around too much during the past week or so- still a clear outsider. Andy Burnham looks to be the only other really plausible contender with a 12/1 listing.
The odds then take a sizable jump to 25/1 should you think former chancellor of the ex-chequer Alistar Darling is set to get the Labour nod. Yvette Cooper is trading at the same price alongside Harriet Harman.
Jon Cruddas is at 33/1 while John McFall trades at 50/1 with Peter Mandelson and John McDonnell.
Fancy Tony Blair to make a dramatic reappearance for Labour? He's listed at a whopping 100/1 to be the next Labour leader.
While things may seem a bit dodgy for the Labour party at the moment, being the parliamentary outsiders, there is plenty of reason to be optimistic for the future. Paddy Power has opened a market called "Government After Next Election" and you'll find that a Labour Majority is the favoured outcome at 6/4. A Conservative Majority trades at 15/8 while a Labour/Lib Dem Coalition is sitting at a 4/1 price.
Nobody is quite sure just how things are going to unfold, but you can rest assured that it will be a very interesting political scene in Britain.
