NEXT LIVERPOOL MANAGER ODDS SHOW DIDIER DESCHAMPS AND FRANK RIJKAARD ODDS DROPPING
It hasn't upset the betting market too much although we have seen Roy Hodgson's price a little bit- that's right, we have a new contestant in the seemingly summer-long contest to become the Next Liverpool Manager.
French newspaper L'Equipe, generally a pretty trustworthy source for this type of thing, announced that Liverpool had made an approach for Marseille manager Didier Deschamps. Apparently, Marseille president Jean-Claude Dassier told the paper that an approach had been made but that there was no chance that the French manager would be leaving to the Reds.
What this doesn't include, however, is a direct statement from Deschamps himself. Maybe he's keen to step up to the challenge of managing a high-profile club like Liverpool. From what I know he's quite well-liked at Marseille and that the club has a place in his heart. You never know though, he's a young and ambitious sort for a manager and could probably do better than most would give him credit for.
He has dropped significantly in price on the Betfair market but punters aren't exactly piling on. The layers have backed off Roy Hodgson for a little bit and he's priced around 1.47 at the moment, up from 1.3 yesterday.
Didier Deschamps odds to be Next Liverpool Manager are trading around 17.0 or 18.0 at the moment. Manuel Pellegrini has risen to 10.0 while he looks to be increasingly out of the running. If you do think he'll get it, 10.0 is a solid price.
I think this has certainly added another question mark over Hodgson because, if an official approach was made recently, that Liverpool are actively shopping around. This may mean that Deschamps won't necessarily be the manager, but another outside selection might pop up.
Frank Rijkaard is now trading around 12.0 with a fair amount of new volume coming into the market.
Things may not be as settled as they looked the other day- the race for the Next Liverpool manager looks to have a few new contestants.
