Next Newcastle Manager Betting Odds Point to Alan Pardew or Martin O'Neill
- By Allan Pederson on December 6, 2010 20:10 GMTUPDATE - It has now emerged that Martin Jol has been installed as the new betting favourite for next Newcastle Manager at an odds-on price of 4/6.
Former Southampton, Charlton and West Ham manager Alan Pardew looks set to take advantage of Chris Haughton’s controversial dismissal from Newcastle. The former Reading man has jumped to the top of the betting markets for this position and is priced as low as 1/3 with major bookmakers and around 2.14 on the betting exchanges.
Hughton’s departure is a bit of a mystery as Newcastle have actually outperformed expectations this year. Mike Ashley has made errors hiring and firing managers in the past and you have to wonder what the dressing room reaction to this really has been. It is also a wonder why you would sack Hughton to draft in Alan Pardew when your team is sitting 11th.
Regardless, a number of high-profile names are being bandied about for this one and Martin O’Neill is listed as the firm second favourite with a 9/2 price with the bookies and a 5.3 listing on the exchange. Whenever there is an availability at a lower to mid-tier Premier League team, you know you’ll hear the words Alan Curbishley, but there appears to be much better options available. Curbs is priced at 6/1 with the bookmakers and a 9.6 price on the exchange.
If there’s a vacancy at Newcastle, you know that Alan Shearer’s name is going to come up pretty frequently over the next few weeks and if you fancy him to finally put his money where his mouth is, then you’re looking at 20/1 with the bookies and a whopping 70.0 on the exchange.
Kevin Keegan to make his 5,000,000th appearance as Newcastle manager is trading at 120.0 on the exchange.
Punters looking for an outside selection here might do well to opt for Frank Rijkaard at 75.0.
