Next Pope Betting- Benedict XVI Facing the Sack?
Captaincy for Roman Catholics FC has been held by Pope Benedict the XVI for the past few seasons and while he may not be linked with the sack from the, ahem, management anytime soon that doesn't mean that punters aren't willing to take a wager on who's going to captain the team into the next decade. Italy and Argentina are known for their stellar domestic environs, and their key men Cardinal Angelo Scola (6/1) and Jorge Mario Bergoglio (9/1) are among the favourites for the yellow armba? giant hat with jewels on it. Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga (7/1) isn't well known outside of his native Honduras, but our scouts within the country report back some favourable performances, especially when playing at home. Austria's Count Christopher von Schoenborn (8/1) doesn't just lead the league in vowels, he is viewed by many as Europe's #2 for the coveted title. Anybody who's followed things in the past knows that you can never discount those winking Portuguese (Jose Da Cruz Policar @ 20/1) and perennial pontificating powerhouses Brazil (Claudio Hummes 12/1) are always in with a shout, but this doesn't appear to be their year. Irish rocker Bono is also listed by Paddy Power at a slightly long 1000-1 to get his first cap within the papacy, but we don't agree with that and we think many people may be offended because they clearly aren't taking the process seriously enough and giving the home team the respect it so thoroughly deserves.
