NEXT SCOTLAND MANAGER BETTING ODDS

With the announcement arriving today that George Burley's position as Scottish manager has become untenable, the betting markets have heated up. Fueled by speculation and rumours of who is willing to step up and grab hold of the poisoned chalice that is the Scottish Football Managers position. As it currently stands, it is looking like a three, or possibly four, horse race between Craig Levein, Walter Smith and Jim Jeffries. I suspect that many will take an outside bet on Jimmy Calderwood considering that he's listed at a solid price of 7.0. Levein is the favourite, by a slim margin, at a 3.75 price. That's still great odds even if he is the favourite to take over the position, as you'll see the prices swing around wildly based on what names are on the back sheets each morning. Walter Smith trades at 4.5 while Jim Jeffries can be backed at a 5.0 price. There are always a few high-profile names bandied about for these types of betting markets and the Scotland Manager position is no exception. The likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes are listed on there at 34.0 and 26.0, but that would be a little bit outlandish and I don't advise putting your money anywhere near those two options. Things aren't exactly peachy for Moyes at Everton right now, but this doesn't look like the type of gig he's looking for. Graeme Souness is a possibility, a real possibility as he doesn't seem to mind taking up the helm of underachieving teams (Newcastle, we're looking in your direction) and Souey is well-priced at 17.0. Ally McCoist is at 15.0 alongside Gordon Strachan, while Joe Jordan and Alex McLeish can be backed at 21.0 and 26.0, respectively.
