After making it all the way to the Champions League Final last year (along with a respectable top four finish), Spurs are currently languishing in 14th place and looking like they are struggling to find a way forward after failing to reinforce properly during the summer months.
Chairman Daniel Levy announced that the club had parted ways with Pochettino this afternoon and we have already seen the football observers begin trotting out who they think is actually likely to wind up in the position once a true successor is announced.
This has also seen the bookmakers begin to light up the market with a number of popular names emerging as potential candidates for the position - which will be viewed as one of the more desirable vacancies one could have at this stage. Taking over a club with so much history and potential is a lot more appealing for many unemployed managers than signing up for a relegation fight in February.
It will be a tough blow for Pochettino’s career, as he has been closely linked with a number of top clubs over the last year or two with Manchester United chief among them, particularly during Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s recent wobbles with the first team side.
It is unlikely that Pochettino will remain in England after this occurrence and it will be interesting to see how he actually moves forward from this.
