Noon-time Clash Between Manchester United and Liverpool

Fresh from 10 days of International duty, United and Liverpool are set to face off in the first big four match-up of the season. Suspiciously, Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard have suddenly become fully fit despite being declared injured for their club sides. Rafa Benitez may be guilty of encouraging his players to put club before country and, after England produced their best performance in years despite Gerrard's absence, one must wonder whether they were really ever injured at all. Check out the outstanding odds on this match at Canbet!United has Wayne Rooney back in form after he bossed the Croatia match, creating three goals and scoring another. But the big wildcard here is Dimitar Berbatov- I am confident that Fergie will go balls-to-the-wall against the scousers and will put Berba up front with Rooney and Tevez tucked in just behind him. Anderson and Nani should be fit to play and there is a rumor that Owen Hargreaves may even make an appearance in midfield. Paul Scholes has had Liverpool's number in the past and he could also prove to be pivotal. I think the Ferdinand/Vidic axis should be able to contain Torres sufficiently, and Liverpool will be playing long-balls from Gerrard up to Fernando. If Rio and Nemanja can play with positional awareness and aggression, they should be able to isolate Torres into another ineffectual performance. Never underestimate the power of playing in front of the Kop though. Fergie knows he has to put three points on the board to be able to keep pace with Chelsea and Arsenal and if United can take three points from Anfield their season will be off to a roaring start when it really matters, especially with the first Champions League fixture coming up soon. I can see a big performance from Berbatov, as he will want to reward the United fans, and I don't think Benitez will quite know what to do with Berbatov as looking at his form for Spurs won't really tell you much about how he'll fit into the attack. It has been a long while since United boasted an out and out goalscorer and I will be very interested to see how Dimi does amongst United's team of proven world-beaters.
