PHIL TAYLOR VS RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS BETTING ODDS

When these two ‘heavyweights’ met earlier on in the league you could back Raymond van Barneveld at odds of 8.0 (7/1) on Betfair. Before the match we heard that Barney had been hitting nine-darters in the practice room and onlookers began licking their lips in anticipation. The Dutchman then stuttered into a 2-0 lead before imploding and losing 8-2 to a below-par Phil Taylor.

That seems to have been the final straw for van Barneveld backers and he is now available to back at prices as big as 11.0 (10/1) for tonight’s match. The frustrating thing is that he has shown flashes of brilliance since then but they have too frequently been followed up by displays that are more commonplace in ‘The Dog and Duck’. At his best he is a match for Taylor, but he can’t handle the all important mental aspect of the game any longer. If you are looking for a bet on the match odds market then don’t be fooled into thinking 10/1 is big odds for the world number two, the 1/4 on Taylor is a more than fair price.
For those looking for a greater return on their stake there are a few other possible plays that are not linked to the match odds betting. Whilst The Power isn’t the most relentless in the 180’s hitting he does hit more than his fair share, Barney on the other hand has fewer than any other player in the tournament so far. On that basis, 4/6 with Totesport on Taylor to hit the most maximums in this evening’s game looks to be a good bet as does 11/10 with William Hill on their being fewer than 6.5 throughout the match in total.
Finally, the highest checkout market is set at over and under 121.5 at Stan James. I have said it before and no doubt I will say it again; Taylor is a master and striking killer blows when they matter. That usually means one of two things, either hitting a 180 or taking out a big number and since we already have the 180’s covered it makes sense to also get on the over 121.5 checkout at 4/5.
